Chin implants were used to reconstruct birth defects and trauma related incidents. Today this cosmetic surgery procedure is a way to enhance a person’s chin to create better look and to create facial structure from a weak chin.

Chin implant is a cosmetic surgery procedure that the face of the patient is transformed into a more aesthetically pleasing shape.

The medical items that we use to do the chin implant are commonly made from hard silicone. It is commonly used in the form of dimethylsiloxane polymer which has a large molecule of repetitive units. It contains silicon, oxygen and methane.

Chin augmentation or implant is usually performed using local anesthesia or combined with other procedures. The procedure takes from one to one and a half hour. Sometimes the patients chose to have cheek implant as well so the time of the operation may extend.

Another procedure for chin augmentation is called “Genioplasty”. It referred as a “sliding genioplasty”. It this procedure we will use a bone saw to trim a piece off the bottom of the chin. Then we will slide it forward and fastening it with titanium screws. Sometimes we also use metal plates.

You can get back to work and regular activities in 1-2 weeks. Most patients return to work within a week.

Note:

To get the best result of chin implant, you need to do the computer image for your buttock to see the different between before and after. If you have a chance to see the different before getting things done then you are likely to get the result that you want.

It’s rare to find a bone infection, so this is a low risk procedure. However it’s normal to have bruising and swelling after the surgery. The bruising and swelling will gone in a week or two.
